A quiet Sunday

We decided to go look around this afternoon. We headed towards the highway and stopped in a Warehouse called Texas Style Furniture...and boy did they have some. It mostly the heavy rustic wood and some iron items...Found a couple of things but need to wait... Then we went to Gander Mountain, its like a Bass Pro Shop but alot smaller. and went over to the Outlet Mall...LOL,,, and you kids thought Topeka mall was nothing...Our has 3 stores...just wait til you come out and I'll show you...
Well it was lunch time and being a Sunday afternoon EVERYONE goes out to lunch..we ended up at a Mexican Restaurant, La Parasda...It was Ok... then went to store for few things and headed home. I made my weight watcher muffins and read the newspaper and Dad played on computer...
I feel like Little House on Prairie, "clearing the land" ..with dad not being able to get out in the yard yet because of his leg rashes..I go out every evening and started at the back fence with my big clippers and chop everything and anything down and throwing it over the fence in the pasture behind us...I do about 20 ft each evening... it's getting the Pam's special trim,,, (down to the ground and off the fence)... if it doesn't rain I might get it done by this weekend....but only to the edge of the creek...I'm not going in there.
Well dinner dishes are waiting,,Dad cooked tonight, so its my turn to clean...

wild flowers, trip to town and 1st snake

Well this morning as we are sitting on porch with our coffee Dad eyes some color among the tall grass...Its wild flowers popping up....so I took a few pictures.
Dad and I went to town and found a hamburger place called Carpentars...they had really great burgers..they grind up their own burgers and cook them...Reminds me of the cafe next to my Pa-Pa..... then we went to Home Depo and got a few things and then decided to try a different grocery store in town, Brookshires..Its like a Albertson...
Good thing I took the flower pictures cause Mike the lawn guy showed up late this afternoon and got only half of the lawns mowed..He says it takes him about 4 hours to mow the whole thing. He'll come back tomorrow morning to finish the job. He was talking to me out on back patio and asking if I had seen any snakes and telling me that everytime he has mowed he has killed a small grasssnake or two and just then we saw something move in the grass about 2 foot away,,, It was 2 1/2 to 3 foot long grass snake.. He jumped on it several times and then tossed it farther in yard...said he'd get it with the mower. EEEEEEWWWWH!!!!
He said he has found them around the deck area everytime and he thinks they are under the deck. Told us to get some "Snake Be Gone" and throw it around the deck real good and it will chase them out and away from the house. Yeah could they please go out to the other pastures or the creek please... He said he would cut the grass really short, so I will be able to see the snakes...Oh great ..Thanks...
Wes say he'll bring the shovel up to the house so we can chopped their heads off, til he can teach me how to shoot them...
HAH!!! I dont plan on getting that close folks...

First thunderstorm and ER visit

..Wes got up at 4:30 this morning with his itchy legs..I could see the lightning from the window..ohh maybe some rain... He came back to bed as I got up at 7 a.m...
Had my coffee out on porch, watching the crazy hummingbirds and 3 beautiful red cardinals,,,, There was a nice sweet breeze...guess we get some little rain.
After coffee, I did some tree trimming of small branches and shoots, as high as I could reach on trees along west fence line...then I decided to weed whack the grass away from the porch so I got out everything and wouldn't you know it, the clouds are building.
Hah! I've been waiting 2 days for it to rain and nothing, so I went on ahead and would stop when it really did decided to rain... Got a 3 feet strip whacked across the whole porch and raked but stopped and put things away when the thunder got closer...one thousand one,,,two, three, four, five,. Just finished with sweeping the porch and here it came..and boy did it come down...We ended up with 8/10, almost a inch of rain...it even woke Dad up. Had lunch sitting on sunporch watching the rain.
Well,,, after looking at Dads legs I told him he needs to go to a doctor.. It seems whatever these spots are, they had almost doubled in size over the weekend... He called Kaiser and they said to go to a Urgent Care or a ER..since there is no Urgent Care we took a trip into town to the Corsicana ER... I think the waiting room is smaller than my livingroom... We were in and out in less than 3 hours... Doctor said it looks more like poison oak/ivy than bug bites...and gave him 2 prescriptions . hope that does the trick... Guess we will be looking into a new health care here in town...

A Real Farmers Market

We went to town again,,, yes I know that's 3 times this week.. This time to check out the farmers market. They have their market on Tues and Sat mornings.
There were about 12 farmers and wives, backed up their trucks in 2 rows selling their fresh fruit and veggies and some plants...

We bought a mush melon,.kinda like cantaloupe,,,2 fresh hugh garlic bulbs, qt bag black eye peas already shelled and Dad bought a bag of mustard greens....

He's cooking dinner tonight he tells me....greens with onion and ham hocks,,,black eye peas and cornbread...

Then we went over a couple of block to downtown Corsicana and stopped at Dee's Place for breakfast.... well, It's an very historic old drug/soda fountain store and looks it. They are well known supposedly for their hamburgers. Today all they could offer for breakfast was: bacon and eggs or biscuits & gravy, cause their grill is out of order...When I asked what kind of gravy, sausage or bacon?... the gal said What do you mean?...oh we don't make our our gravy...(Ewwww!)
I just smiled and said oh, I'll take eggs and bacon please.... the bacon was microwaved..but ok...

Next we head across to the other end of town, to Walmart for groceries this time.... MAN! their craft and fabric section is going out too...Where am I going to get fabric at without driving 50 miles? Bought $187.00 in groceries and came home and repackaged it into smaller daily serving sizes for us....

Chased a red cardinal around front yard trying to get its picture but too far away. Danny bring me your camera... Ok guess I'll go work on my puzzle on the sunporch..looks like its clouding up a little...

Cows,,Bird, and Butterflies

Well I was sitting here and all of a sudden I saw movement out the window..The cows were running under the big tree along the fence...so I went out to look at them... there all brown, white, mixed and few black and one spotted black and white bull with BIG horns. Even a couple of calves...I see them about every other day along the back fence. Seems they were running from a John Deere tracker in the next pasture...

Any here is the bird that had her nest made before we got here so we left it for this season...seems that her eggs have hatched cause both mom and pop seem to be feeding at least 2 , maybe 3...I will gett my mirror and take a klook....

And then there i was out chasing these big black and orange spotted butterflies around the Momosa tree this evening...Dad just laughs at me...

I did have a bright red cardinal eating bird food this morning..but where was my camera...I will get apic and post it....

Going to town

Going to town is a big thing at the moment...we go once or twice a week depending on the needs.
It usually is a couple of hours cause you make a big circle and stop everywhere you need to. Today our main goal was to do laundry.. Will get my new washer and dryer next month.
We stopped in a restaurant called "The Other Place " for lunch...then headed over to the laundry mat and got that done. Chatted with the gal who works there Michelle,,,she remembered me. Met a new lady, named Miss Peggie...She was fun to talk to also. Then headed over to HEB, one of the grocery stores and then stopped for gas.. my rule is NEVER let your gas get down less than 1/4 tank. Gas is $2.32 a gallon here... then of course we had to stop at Sonic for the Dads diet Lemon-limeade and head back home.

Week 2 in TX

Well this week we got the RV all cleaned out and Wes planes all together. I decided the crape myrtal trees out front needed a little trimming up, at the bottom and yesterday Dad and I cleaned out around the air conitioner and those 2 trees and some kind of vines, well,,, they got Pams trimming service and will need to put up a new fence since the one end has rotted off and fell over.
And the best thing about this week is that we got satelite for the computor so now I can e-mail and blog...YEAH!
Well my floors are dry so now its time to go to town to do laundry....

Pictures...

Happy 4th of July

We took a Mitchell tour of Dawson, Dad showed B & B Granny Moore (Grandpa Mitchell mother) house and the cemetery, then we went to Brushie Prairie and looked at home church and cemetery with all the Mitchell and French. Grandpa Mitchell was born there. Stopped and got a few fireworks and had a bar-b-q. Becky got a cake and ice cream for my birthday and card for their 5th ANN. Of course Lil B and I made cookies.
I had bought the boys a little pool, floaties and beach balls. They had a great time playing in that. It sure didn't take long for that water to warm up...

We are here!

It started off with no water, broken pipes outside of house but we had air so we used the RV as our living quarters for water, sleeping and restroom the first 2 days while Dad and Brian found the leaks and repaired the pipe. Lil Brian helped too with the dusting and mopping... he wore me out chasing each other around the livingroom and kitchen. Then he discovered he could go up and down the truck ramp and he had a great timedoing that. What fun we had.
Man cant take the heat...We would do a little bit and sit. I have learned to sweat!

Texas- Ho Trip

Well our trip to Texas was 3 days..We took a day longer than Wes and I usually do but we had the kids with us and it was very hot the first day.
At one point the boys got really hot after we stopped for gas so I had Becky strip them down and sit on the floor with all 4 air conditioner aimed on them with wet cool towels, lots of water and played with them...poor babies...if that didnt work it would have been the bath tub or the ice chest boat to play in..
Stopped at 2 nice camp grounds and Lil B like that so he could throw rocks, watch rabbits and play. The second day was alot cooler and the 3rd day we had rain showers... We got here safely and no problems.
